CHUTES

In simple words chute are basically tubes or vertical pipelines that convey/transfer material from higher level to lower level with use of gravity. This principle is used to transfer different type of material through chute.
Chutes are categorized based on material they transfer. Chutes used in residential and commercial buildings for bringing down municipal waste are known as GARBAGE CHUTE. Chutes used in under construction building for debris removal are called as DEBRIS CHUTE. Chutes in hotels and hospital used for transfer soiled laundry are called Linen or LAUNDRY CHUTE

GARBAGE CHTUE

In multi storied building, the tradition method of collecting waste individually from each and every flat daily is time consuming, manpower dependent, and costly. It also increases load on lift and makes lift dirty and smelly. Garbage chute offers following benefits in buildings.

  • Efficient waste management: Garbage chute enables collection total waste of building at a single point.
  • Convenience for user: It allows user to dispose waste at any time. No need to storage waste at home.
  • Cost Saving: It saves cost on manpower as there is no need to collect waste from every flat.
Typically all the waste disposed is collected in the garbage collection room which is situated at ground floor or at lowest floor. From there in newer township projects, WET waste is taken to onsite Biomechanical composting facility and DRY is sold to authorized vendor. Whereas in other building the garbage pickup trucks from local body collects waste.
You can put organic waste like kitchen waste and other dry waste in garbage chute. You cannot put following item in garbage chute. 1. Oversized objects 2. Inflammable items 3. Heavy items
Automatically cleaning systems cleans the entire chute with mixture of plain water and disinfectant. Cleaning sprinklers are placed at every intake door. Total cleaning operation is automated and controlled from an Electrical Control Panel in Garbage Collection room
  • Building code mandates garbage chute to have below fire safety features
  • Fire Rated intake door: Intake door of garbage chute needs to be fire rated designed to contend fire and protect occupants of the building
  • Auto closing fire door at bottom of chute: An auto closing fire doors needs to be provided at bottom of chute which closes the chute automatically in case of fire. Also auto fire door closing function should work without use of electricity as electricity is switched off when fire occurs.
  • Fire sprinklers: Fire sprinklers are installed near the intake door of garbage chute. These sprinklers start sprinkling water in case of fire. (These sprinklers are different from cleaning sprinklers used for cleaning)

LINEN CHTUE

Linen chute or laundry chute is a type of chute installed in hotel or hospital to bring down soiled laundry like bed sheets, towels from various guest rooms and other places to downstairs located laundry room. It is only used by housekeep staff.
In establishment like hotels and hospital, laundry items like bed sheets, table cloths, towels need to be changed frequently. The used laundry items then need to be carried down all the way to the laundry room. This process is time consuming and a lot time of house keeping man hours is wasted in this activity.

Linen Chute enables collection of laundry from all floor to the laundry room directly from their respective floor. This save time and cost and also increased the operational efficiency

DEBRIS CHTUE

Debris chute is used in construction site for safe and efficient removal of debris from upper floor to ground level. Debris like brick and tiles pieces, waste or demolished concrete or plaster can be removed in controlled manner. It minimizes scattering of dust and also dampens sound during debris disposal.
During a construction or renovation project in a building typically a large number of debris is generated. If this debris is generated a higher floor than bring it down through staircase or lift is slow, unsafe and unhygienic process. Installing a debris chute can offer many benefits like

  • Safety: It minimizes risk of accident happening to site worker caused by falling debris.
  • Clean Site: It helps in keeping the work area neat and clean
  • Clean Environment: It significantly reduces dust in environment in and around construction site.
  • Efficiency: it allows faster disposal of debris helping to increase overall site productivity
Modern debris chute are modular in design that can be easily assembled, disassembled and reused in next project.

This makes them very cost efficient and sustainable.
